Kamala Harris

 Kamala Devi Harris born October 20 1964) is an American politician and lawyer who is currently the 49th vice president of the United States. Kamala Devi Harris is the first female vice-president and the highest-ranking female politician in U.S history. As a member of the Democratic Party, she was the former attorney general of California in 2011-2017 and an United States senator representing California in 2017-2021. Harris was born in Oakland. Harris received her law degree from Howard University. Following her first job as an Alameda County District Attorney Harris was hired to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In the following years, she was the City Attorney of San Francisco. In 2003, she was the San Francisco district attorney. In 2010, Harris was elected Attorney General for California. She was reelected in 2014. Harris was the United States junior senator from California between 2017 and 2021. Harris beat Loretta Santiago in the 2016 Senate election making her the second African American woman to serve in the Congress, and the first South Asian American American to do so in the United States Senate. As a senator she advocated health reform, federal descholaring of cannabis, a path for immigrants who are not legal citizens and the DREAM Act and a ban on assault weapons. Harris also backed progressive tax reform. Her name is well-known due to her direct questioning of Trump government officials in Senate hearings.
